This class will be taught as a vinyasa style class, same as our Thursday night class, but with more detailed alignment instructions. We will do some assisting in the middle of the room but only when necessary for poses such as Handstand and Forearm Balance and for any new poses where we need a little extra support to experience a new shape. I will also be practicing with you and working on some new poses for me too. So, how do you know if this class is right for you? Prerequisites are: Students must be practicing Handstand in the middle of the room w an assist and comfortable exploring variations of Vasistasana (Side Plank) & Urdhva Danurasana (Full Wheel). SELLING IS Urgent, Important, Sweet & Beautiful
“Selling, I’ve grown to understand, is more urgent, more important, and, in its own sweet way, more beautiful than we realize. The ability to move others to exchange what they have for what we have is crucial to our survival and our happiness. It has helped our species evolve, lifted our living standards, and enhanced our daily lives. The capacity to sell isn’t some unnatural adaptation to the merciless world of commerce. It is part of who we are.”
That is a quote by the newly discovered by me Daniel Pink. Good God he makes me dizzy and we’ve barely met. He apparently has a book called To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others which I will be leaving to pick up the second I finish this post. I LOVE the idea of selling our ideas with artistry. As an even exchange of what we find most important to ourselves and needed in the world by each other. And through that exchange and understanding we evolve.
It reminds me of something my printmaking teacher said when I was finishing my BFA. We were in our last semester and getting organized to bring our skills as artists into the working world, resumes, artists statements, etc… It was almost 20 years ago and I’ll never forget it. He said:
“You have to do what you do so well you’ll make everyone who sees it wish they had done it themselves.”
How fucking awesome is that?!

Tomorrow is Ground Hog’s Day.
Which is significant not only because it’s no longer January, but because it means we are 1/2 way to Spring. The days are getting longer, the sun is brighter and the coldest days of winter are behind us (lets hope). We are 1/2 way through the season of earth, of being stripped down to bare essentials and moving toward the season of water. Here are a few bright spring flowers to remind us of the importance of the work we do now. A little glimpse of what our ideas are doing in the dark, beneath the surface, the earth of our bodies and minds, waiting for the right time to make their debut.

This is a 3 weekend workshop series intended for students looking for a deeper understanding of the practice of yoga. For those of you who looking to learn to teach this is an excellent opportunity to establish a great foundation to get started. Take 1 workshop or all 3. All are welcome…students, teachers and those aspiring to teach!
Weekend #1 – “Establishing the Roots of Practice” Studying Yoga Philosophy
Saturday & Sunday February 9-10 from 11:00-5:00 (w a break for lunch) $150
We Plant the Garden. There are actually 3 schools of yoga philosophy: Advaita Vedanta, Classical Yoga and Tantra. Having a broader understanding of each of these philosophies gives us an opportunity to begin to cultivate a deeper understanding of why we practice and what yoga means for each of us personally. That understanding will help us to establish the foundational roots for our asana practice as teachers and students alike.
Weekend #2 – “Setting Strong Roots” Exploring Mantra, Puja & Pranayama
Saturday & Sunday March 16-17 from 11:00-5:00 (w a break for lunch) $150
The Garden begins to grow. With a foundational understanding of what yoga philosophy means to us we can now start to dig a little deeper. During this weekend we will explore the rituals of mantra, puja and pranayama as means to nurture and fortify our yoga practices. As we practice we grow and with that we set strong roots as we go.
Weekend #3 – “From Roots to Flower” Sequencing Strategies
Saturday & Sunday April 20-21 from 11:00-5:00 (w a break for lunch) $150
The Garden Begins to Flower. Here we will explore the bounty of what is possible in creating an asana sequence. This weekend we will work on sequencing strategies for forward folds, backbends, arm balances, etc…and also consider adapting sequences for different student levels. We will talk about how to take the idea of where we want to go in our practices and what we’d like to do with our understanding of yoga into fruition, into a certain pose or set of actions.

She studies primarily with Christina Sell and Darren Rhodes, but happily explores many teachers from many different traditions. She has been sharing what she has learned in classes since 2002, and has been teaching in Wisconsin since 2006. She is amazed with the opportunity to practice everyday in all kinds of ways. Meg is eternally grateful to all her teachers for their wisdom and grace.
LAUREL VAN MATRE – RYT 500, E-YRT 500 teaches with enthusiasm for the love of yoga. She has studied from many schools of yoga for over 15 years and holds certifications in Jivamukti & Anusara Yoga. She considers her primary teacher at this time to be Christina Sell. BEGIN AGAIN
It’s time to begin again.
We are at that sweet place at the beginning of a new year, before judgement before insecurity where we get to be quiet and just listen. Happy with what we can do with what we are carrying with us from the year before as we step into something new. It’s a time of space of creating a new foundation built on what we already know with the vision of where we’d like to go held close to our hearts.

Your Story for a New Year
This Thursday >>> Celebrate the Winter SolsticeEveryone has a story. Everyone wants to tell their story. And Everyone’s story is worth being told.As we live through each season we move forward through cycles, change and choice. Within us and all around us. On the solstice we move from the time of Ether to Earth. Each of the seasons is symbolized by one of the 5 elements: Winter = Earth, Spring = Water, Summer = Fire and Fall = Air. The element of Ether is symbolized by the time between Halloween and the Solstice. The element of ether is symbolic of our intuition, our ability to close our eyes and sit still. It is a place of creativity before boundaries, judgment, insecurity and this freedom is what ignites the creative spark at our core. It’s where the story begins. It gives us a light in the dark, our word for the year, an idea on how we would like to tell our story for a new year. But in order for our word, dream, desire to manifest it has to become physical, like a seed. It has to take shape, to have a place to root into and grow. The element of earth is symbolic of the body. As we move from ether to earth we start to manifest our idea physically. We begin to make choices about the way we breathe, move and rest to build a body that reflects where we are now and what direction we want to go. Our bodies literally take the shape of our hearts and minds, each pose a reflection of our awareness as we weave and unwind our narrative of experience. This Thursday night we will move from Ether to Earth. We will move from one season to the next and into a new year.
